Today the latest version of Microsoft’s most essential development environment Visual Studio 2010 will be released in Las Vegas. So we should see the downloads later today (or latest tomorrow) on TechNet and MSDN.
The product is available in three different flavors: Professional, Premium and Ultimate. The difference in functionality and pricing between the three editions is displayed here. The major difference between Ultimate and Premium seems to be Test Management and UML integration. If either of these is of any concern to you, you might want to upgrade. Last week at a conferenceI saw an excellent presentation of the Test Management. This is some brilliant piece of technology and if you work in large software projects that money is well spent.
If you want to understand why you should upgrade to that version (and if you need to), Microsoft’s Whitepaper on the topic might help.
What has been your experience with Visual Studio 2010 (Beta) compared to the 2008 or 2005 version?
