Last night Microsoft published number 4 of Silverlight. The software is available for download for Windows and the Mac (yes, it works with Safari and FireFox as well).
If you don’t know what Silverlight is:
- It’s a technology that allows software developers to build websites and business applications that give end users a richer experience than standard web technologies (*).
- Silverlight is Microsoft’s competition to Adobe‘s Flash. If you don’t know what that is – you probably are using it a lot without knowing: whenever you see things moving on a website, chances are that (part of the) website has either been created with Flash or … (drumroll) … Silverlight.
(*) What that means is a separate blog post in itself. If you are interested in more detail, either drop me a comment here (I read the comments!) or read some of Microsoft’s case studies. And if you really want to get into it, read the features list and check out the resources.
